Zuma: ANC in trouble
Zuma told an ANCYL consultative conference that the party is in trouble and the youth league needs rebuilding.
The president addressed the league's consultative conference in Soweto on Wednesday.
He told delegates that those who are criticising the ANC are in the minority and must not be allowed to overshadow the truth.
Zuma says the youth must be vocal, but also have discipline.
"It's crucial that it must be militant… But the ANC militants must be well organised and well directed, it cannot be misdirected, that's the difference and that's what makes you distinguishable from others. We can't say you must not be militant."
Zuma says the party is in trouble and its youth league has also been left shaken.
He says it's time the ANCYL youth league stood up for its mother body.
"The youth league has been shaken, but also the mother body has been shaken. It has its own weaknesses. It needs to look at itself and we're said so in the National Executive Committee (NEC) a few days ago. We admit that the organisation is in trouble."
Just a day before the conference started, leaders decided to call off the election of new leaders in the ANCYL because of apparent infighting.
