Two IT employees were arrested after attempting to defraud the utility of billions of rands.
JOHANNESBURG - Two Eskom employees have been arrested after allegedly attempting to defraud the utility of billions of rands.
The Hawks arrested the pair and an alleged accomplice during a sting operation at the weekend after a two month investigation.
Alarm bells were raised by Eskom when officials picked up fraudulent activity within their information technology department.
The Hawks' Paul Ramaloko says the men had apparently interfered with Eskom's payroll network system.
"They attempted to defraud Eskom of over R3 billion. They made their first appearance in the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Monday."
