HARARE - Zimbabwe's Presidential Affairs Minister Didymus Mutasa is the latest top ruling party official to lose his spot in President Robert Mugabe's central committee.

Party members loyal to Grace Mugabe are purging Zanu-PF ranks of those who support Vice President Joice Mujuru ahead of a crucial congress next week in which Mujuru looks almost certain to be ousted.

Senior Zanu-PF politicians are being ousted so fast from the party's highest ranks that one commentator in today's Herald suggested that Mugabe will be the last man standing.

Latest to be purged and certainly the most high-profile so far is Mutasa, a man formerly so powerful he was known as a 'kingmaker' within the ruling party.

Now accused of plotting Mugabe's downfall, Mutasa has lost his seat in the central committee because of his perceived support for Mujuru.
