Alleged abalone poachers walk free

CAPE TOWN - Two alleged abalone poachers have been granted bail after they were arrested for the possession of approximately R1.5 million worth of abalone.

The two suspects were apprehended on the N2 highway last week while driving toward the Wilderness.

Officials found 82 bags of abalone hidden in their vehicle

The police's Bernadine Steyn says, "The two accused appeared in the magistrates court yesterday on a charge of possession of abalone."

The case was postponed until 2 March and bail of R3,000 was granted to each accused.
