Mbalula: ‘You are all a bunch of winners!’
Thousands of people took to the streets of Pretoria today to take part in honouring Madiba.
PRETORIA - Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula has praised South Africans who participated in this year's Nelson Mandela Sports and Culture Day for their unwavering support of Madiba's legacy.
Thousands of people took to the streets of Pretoria today to take part in races of various sporting disciplines to commemorate the second annual Nelson Mandela sports and culture day.
The day also saw performances from some of South Africa's top musicians.
Mbalula who took part in the five kilometre race himself says Madiba would've been proud of today's turnout.
"Today, 24,000 South Africans walked, cycled and ran. You are a bunch of winners!"
The streets of Pretoria became a hive of activity today as South Africans from all walks of life paid homage to the global icon.
Fitness enthusiasts took part in several races the day had to offer including a 67km cycle, a 9,4km run as well as a 5km walk.
Several of the country's top performers including Lira and Kurt Darren kept the crowd on their feet throughout the day.
