JOHANNESBURG - Kaizer Chiefs are hoping their players who were with the national team come back with a clean bill of health.

Amakhosi welcome back the likes of Brilliant Khuzwayo, Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Tefu Mashamaite and Mandla Masango who were all with Bafana Bafana for their qualifying campaign.

Chiefs face Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday in the Premier Soccer League match, purported to be a tough game for both teams.

Chiefs spokesperson Vina Maphosa says the players will be assessed today to ensure their fitness ahead of Sundowns match.

"If they are sharp and return the way they left in tip top condition, then I think they would have been beneficial for the team. But if they come back fatigued, tired from travelling and also tired from the games, it will be then a different ball game."

Maphosa says only time will tell if the international break helped the team.

"We'd have loved to have the break with the full squad, but the break with the players that are central to the team makes it very difficult to determine whether it was beneficial or not."

The Glamour Boys are yet to lose a match in the league this season, having played 10 games, won nine and drawn only one.

On the other hand, the Brazilians have had a rough start to their campaign having only won four and drawn four and lost two.

They sit fifth on the log and they will look to turn things around, and a win against Chiefs will give them much needed respite, especially for under fire coach Pitso Mosimane.

As things stand, 12 points separate the two teams and Chiefs will be looking to extend their healthy lead at the top of the table, hopefully until the league breaks for Christmas.

Kick-off is at 3pm at FNB Stadium.
