Motsoeneng to run SABC while boss is away
Motsoeneng will oversee the running of the broadcaster while acting CEO Anton Heunis recovers.
JOHANNESBURG - The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) says COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng has not taken over the reigns as acting CEO but simply has some of the responsibilities temporarily delegated to him.
Motsoeneng will oversee the running of the broadcaster while current acting CEO Anton Heunis recovers from an illness.
The move comes a few weeks after the Western Cape High Court ordered Motsoeneng be suspended.
The SABC's Kaizer Kganyago says Motsoeneng's placement is simply procedural as current acting CEO Anton Heunis is out of office.
"They have just delegated the powers for the running of the organisation in his absence, but Hlaudi is not the CEO."
The Sunday Times reports Motsoeneng has already conducted interviews for three key posts while stepping into the temporary position.
However Kganyago says Motsoeneng does not have complete autonomy during this period.
The public broadcaster says he is working in close consultation with Heunis who is recovering at home.
