Dean Furman to lead Bafana in Afcon qualifier
Furman will lead Bafana against Sudan today in the absence of Senzo Meyiwa, who died last month.
JOHANNESBURG - Bafana Bafana midfielder Dean Furman will lead the national team in their Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier against Sudan this afternoon, while Darren Keet will start in goal.
South Africa top the group heading into the match at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban and a win will guarantee their place at Afcon 2015, which will now be held in Equatorial Guinea.
But Bafana Bafana forward Mandla Masango has refused to call the team favourites ahead of the clash this afternoon.
He says the other teams aren't out of the running just yet.
"Any team stands a good chance of qualifying for Afcon, so I just think we need to want it badly in order to qualify."
The national team have not been able to replicate their unbeaten run on the road, as they are yet to win a game at home.
Masango says pressure is part of the game.
"Everywhere you play, there's pressure; whether you play for a small team, big club or national team. We strive on that. We have to make sure that we get there prepared."
It'll be an emotional encounter for Bafana Bafana today, as it's the first time the national team will take to the field since Meyiwa's murder.
