Uitsig stab victim dies in hospital
Barren Langley was stabbed 19 times trying to protect his nephew Justin who was hacked to death.
CAPE TOWN - An Uitsig family has lost a second member in the space of week following an attack by a group of men in the area.
The boy's uncle, 27-year-old Barren Langley, tried to protect him from the group and was stabbed 19 times.
He died in hospital last night after being operated on.
There's a sombre atmosphere at the Langley home following the death of a second family member in a matter of days.
Barren's mother cried as friends and family streamed into their home to offer their condolences.
His sister, Bridgette Langley, said she can't get over the fact that she's lost her brother and son, two of the most important people in her life, in the same week and described the pain as unbearable.
Bridgette says she threw herself on top of her son in a bid to protect him.
She claims a group of about 10 men then started attacking her child in front of her.
"I had no chance because I was lying on top of him and all of them came to kill me also. A man also came and told them [the attackers] 'why are you doing this that is just a child'."
She said they used an axe and a homemade claw-like weapon to mutilate the teen.
Police have arrested six suspects in connection with the incident who were denied bail at the Goodwood Magistrates Court earlier this week.
