JOHANNESBURG - City Power says a total of eight suspects have been arrested in connection with cable theft that led to widespread water cuts in Gauteng.

Large parts of Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg, the West Rand and Pretoria were left dry in September when cables were stolen from the Eikenhof Pumping Station.

Initially, four men were arrested for the crime but last night, four more confessed to masterminding the plan.

The latest suspects were found in possession of 120 kilograms worth of copper valued at over R8,000.

City Power's Sicelo Xulu says, "We sent our investigators onsite and we caught them red-handed. They showed us as part of our investigation where exactly they stole those cables."
