JOHANNESBURG - Bafana Bafana midfielder May Mahlangu has been banned from the national squad and from all future call ups.

South African Football Association (Safa) issued a statement confirming that Mahlangu will never again be considered for any international duties.

The move comes after Mahlangu on Monday announced that he wanted to be excused from the current national team camp citing fatigue as a reason.

He also said that he would not be available for the Afcon qualifiers against Sudan and Nigeria.

Mahlangu's announcement angered coach Shakes Mashaba who threatened never to consider the player again.

Safa made Mashaba's threats a reality.

In a statement, Safa Chief Executive Officer Dennis Mumble said, "May Mahlangu is banned from any call ups forthwith. There is no need to press disciplinary hearing. He will not be called up for any Bafana Bafana duties anymore. "

Mumble said banning should send a message that Safa will not tolerate any individual who does not take national call ups seriously.
