Gauteng police confiscate over R20m worth of stolen goods
Two men were found in possession of the goods ranging from electronics to compressed tobacco.
BENONI - Police have confiscated more than R20 million worth of stolen goods from a warehouse in Benoni, east of Johannesburg.
Two men found in possession of the goods, ranging from compressed tobacco to electronic goods, were arrested at the property in Brentwood Park.
Police say the arrests are as a result of investigations by the Flying Squad, after a truck containing washing powder was hijacked on Nigel Road on the R55 yesterday.
Police discovered more stolen goods at the property this morning.
Police spokeswoman Pinky Tsinyane says the total amount of goods recovered amount to around R23 million.
"The compressed tobacco is estimated at R19,6 million, the clothes at R1 million and the Ariel soap that was found in one of the trailers is estimated at R3 million. This is definitely a big one for us and we are thankful to the members of the community who assisted and reported the suspicious activity on this property."
The men, aged 54 and 38, are due to appear in court soon.
