CAPE TOWN - There has been a major abalone bust in Philippi in the Western Cape.

The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries says a tip off from the community led to R3 million worth of abalone being discovered.

An illegal abalone processing plant was also discovered at a warehouse in Philippi.

Three foreign nationals are due to appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court tomorrow.

The department's Lionel Adendorf said the department will continue to strengthen ties with communities.
