JOHANNESBURG - Police have made a major breakthrough in their fight against drug trafficking, arresting five men in possession of drugs worth an estimated street value of R85 million.

Two men, including a Durban club owner, were arrested at the Middelburg Toll Plaza on the N4 in Nelspruit last night, after they were found in possession of ecstasy pills.

Later, police arrested another three men in a house in Westville, KwaZulu-Natal.

Chemicals commonly used in the manufacturing of drugs including cocaine as well as bulk powdered chemicals were seized at the home.

The police's Solomon Makgale says officers believe the drugs seized on the N4 were being transported to the house in Westville.

"The drugs were being transported to Durban. We found the owner of the house and two other people busy with chemicals commonly used for manufacturing drugs."
