Suspect shot after high-speed car chase in PTA
At least seven men robbed a vehicle transporting tobacco products in Mamelodi.
PRETORIA - Police have arrested a man following a high-speed vehicle chase in Pretoria this morning.
The man was one of at least seven others who robbed a vehicle transporting tobacco products in Mamelodi.
Police say the suspects fled from the scene in two different vehicles and a lookout was given to members of the Flying Squad.
The police helicopter was also activated.
One of the suspects was traveling along the N4 towards Bronkhorstspruit but made a U-turn on the Watermeyer Street bridge where he collided with another vehicle.
Police spokesperson Dave Miller says members of the flying squad who were chasing the vehicle then chased after the suspect on foot.
"The police had no choice but to open fire and the suspect was shot in the leg."
He was apprehended on the scene.
Miller says the search is still continuing for the other suspects who fled the scene in Mamelodi.
Police forensic teams are still combing the crime scene on the Watermeyer offramp, where a bronze BMW and white Honda collided.
Miller says the long chase ensued just after 9am.
It's unclear at this stage if any goods were stolen
Another man travelling in a private vehicle was treated at a nearby hospital for minor injuries.
