Minister slams e-toll critics
Transport Minister Dipuo Peters delivered her opening remarks to the Gauteng e-tolls review panel today.
PRETORIA - Transport Minister Dipuo Peters has slammed critics of the e-tolls and the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project accusing them of peddling misinformation and lies about the project.
Peters delivered her opening remarks to the Gauteng e-tolls review panel in Pretoria this morning.
Gauteng Premier David Makhura established the panel three months ago to look at the economic and social impact of e-tolls on the province.
Peters says the e-toll project was implemented following thorough consultations with the public and in terms of the applicable legislation.
She says this was confirmed by six courts of law and 17 judges.
She has however expressed disappointment at what she termed 'a creeping tendency to disregard court judgments'.
The minister says her department will address misinformation about the project that is being widely peddled, adding that discussions on tolling the highways were initiated by the Gauteng Provincial Government in 1996.
Peters says in the following three days, untruths and lies will be settled.
