MEC alarmed by child murder in Ceres
MEC Albert Fritz urged young mothers to contact their nearest police station if they need to help.
CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Social Development MEC Albert Fritz has called on young mothers to seek help if they are unable to care for their children.
This comes after an infant was killed in Ceres over the weekend.
The baby's mother has since been arrested after she apparently confessed to killing and dumping the child.
Fritz says he's alarmed and urged mothers to contact their nearest police station if they need to help.
"The Department of Social Development in the Western Cape again calls on young mothers not to abandon their babies. We urge them to please come to the nearest police station so that the department can take care of your baby."
Last month, Fritz said urged police to investigate parental negligence after the disappearance of a baby in Paarl.
Two-month-old Azile Skafu disappeared from his parents' home, but was found a week later after being kidnapped.
Fritz urged parents to realise the massive responsibility they have when raising children.
Meanwhile, a mother appeared in court on Monday for allegedly duping her baby boy.
The toddler was recently found tied up and deserted in an open field.
