3 arrested for TUT stabbing
Police say the three were arrested hours after the body of a 21-year-old was discovered on campus.
PRETORIA - Police say three students have been arrested in connection with the murder of a fellow student at the Tshwane University of Technology.
The first year student was killed at the weekend in what police say was a dispute between two rivalry groups.
It's understood a fight broke out at a local tavern in Soshanguve which was later carried on at the university's campus close by.
The 21-year-old was apparently one of a few other students involved in the brawl.
Conflicting reports have emerged of how the student was killed but police say he was stabbed to death while another student was also wounded during the incident.
Police spokesman Matthews Nkoadi says investigations are continuing.
"We know it was a fight between two groups but we don't know what it's about yet. One student died in the incident, another was seriously wounded and is recovering in hospital. There were also other students who sustained minor injuries."
Nkoadi says the trio was arrested late last night and will appear in court soon.
"Our investigations are still ongoing to see if we can possibly link any more people to the incident," said Nkoadi.
