CAPE TOWN - The funeral service has begun for Xolile Mngeni who is one of three men convicted of murdering Anni Dewani.
A service is being held at his family home in C-Section in Khayelitsha.
Mngeni died at the Goodwood Prison about two weeks ago, after a battle with cancer.
27-year-old Xolile Mngeni was better known to his neighbourhood friends as Wati.
Speaking at the funeral service here in Khayelitsha today, some of his friends paid tribute to him.
Childhood friend Monwabisi Banca says Mngeni was like a brother to him.
"He had this pulling attraction to him. You just wanted to be near him. He was funny, I could tell you a whole lot of funny stories."
It's still uncertain whether his death will affect the case against Shrien Dewani who is facing charges of organising his wife's murder in 2010.
Mngeni will be laid to rest at the Khayelitsha cemetery later today.
