Heavy police presence on scene of N1 shooting
EWN understands police had been chasing suspects in an armed robbery when the incident occurred.
JOHANNESBURG - There's a heavy police presence on the scene of a shooting near the Buccleuch Interchange on the N1 Highway.
The suspects robbed a truck with cigarettes near Glen Marais.
A police chase and shootout ensued near the N1 close to the Cell C building.
Motorists say they saw officers firing shots from a police helicopter just north of the Buccleuch Interchange earlier this morning.
Paramedics on the scene say two people have been arrested after being shot but another two managed to flee.
Emer-G-Med's Charles Byrne says no one was killed.
One man says he saw police firing shots at someone on the highway from a helicopter this morning.
"As I saw the police helicopter hovering over the highway, they fired shots onto the highway. They were shooting at a guy dressed in black.
Another woman also saw the incident.
"This is absolutely shocking. I saw the helicopter from the distance and as it drove closer it almost landed and there was shooting. Two guys are on the road."
It's understood police recovered one R5 rifle from the scene.
