Jewish community protests outside Sea Point Woolworths
They say hate speech and discrimination toward Jews in South Africa will not be tolerated.
CAPE TOWN - About 50 people have gathered outside the Woolworths store in Sea Point to protest against the discrimination of Jews in South Africa.
This comes after a pig's head was placed in one of the store's kosher meat sections by a member of the Congress of South African Students Western Cape branch last week in protest against the store stocking Israeli products.
The protesters say hate speech and discrimination toward Jews in South Africa will not be tolerated.
They brandished placards that read "Say no to anti-semitism" and "proudly South African proudly Jewish".
The South African Jewish Board of Deputies' Wendy Kahn says the local Jewish community is outraged by last week's incident.
Kahn said,"What happened here with a pigs head that was placed in an aisle that was assumed to be Kosher was the ultimate insult
to Jewish people in this country".
Woolworths store management did not comment.
