'SABC's Tshabalala didn't obtain a degree'
An independent probe claims the SABC board chair did not complete the BCom she registered for in 1996.
CAPE TOWN - An independent verification process has confirmed South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) board chairperson, Ellen Tshabalala, doesn't have the qualifications she claims to have on her CV.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it asked company, Managed Integrity Evaluation, to check Tshabalala's qualifications against the National Qualifications Register (NQR).
The party's Gavin Davis says the background check revealed that Tshabalala was once registered as a student at The University of South Africa but did not obtain a degree.
"The process essentially checks her qualifications against the NQR. It found that she did not complete the BCom that she registered for at Unisa in 1996."
Tshabalala has asked the Western Cape High Court to decide whether the Parliamentary inquiry into whether she lied about her qualifications is in fact a disciplinary hearing.
The matter will be heard on Monday.
