JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) says it's relieved that its former spokesperson Jackson Mthembu has been discharged from hospital after 10 days, seven of which were spent in the intensive care unit.

Mthembu was shot in the face while withdrawing money from an ATM in Emalahleni last week.

Three people have been arrested but have not been linked to the shooting.

The ANC says Mthembu also sustained internal injuries and had been struggling to breathe.

Party spokesperson Keith Khoza says the party is happy that Mthembu has been released and is out of danger.

"We are relieved that he's finally out of danger. He's doing well and he's on his way to a full recovery."
