CAPE TOWN - It's unclear at this stage whether a man arrested for a robbery at the Canal Walk Shopping Centre could be linked to other heists.

A tip-off from a staff member of a shop led to the breakthrough and Western Cape police have called on the public to continue coming forward with information that could help them investigate the spate of mall robberies.

The man was apprehended at the mall on Tuesday after he was pointed out to police by a member of the public.

Western Cape Police Commissioner Arno Lamoer says the suspect is still being questioned.

"One person was arrested after he was identified by one of the people working in a specific shop. The robbery took place about two weeks ago."

Canal Walk was hit by armed robbers several times in the matter of days earlier this month.

Western Cape malls have repeatedly come under attack since September, with mobile phone shops and jewellery stores being the main targets.
