JOHANNESBURG - President Jacob Zuma has wished all matriculants well for their final exams which start tomorrow.

Pupils will write their English higher language and first additional language.

At least 700,000 grade 12 pupils across the country have registered for the National Senior Certificate exams.

Zuma has urged pupils to study hard but to also give themselves time to rest.

Presidential spokesperson Mac Maharaj said, "We appeal to parents not to put too much pressure on them but to support them. We want all our learners to do well in the exams."

Meanwhile, Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi says they are hoping to reclaim the top spot from the Free State province.

"We can't claim we want to be the best in the world and then regress, we want 90 percent pass."
