JOHANNESBURG - Platinum Stars knocked Kaizer Chiefs out of the Telkom Knockout Cup 5-3 on penalties after 120 minutes of football did not produce a goal.

Stars needed penalties to defeat Chiefs in the last quarter final of tournament.

Dikwena goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontsane came up with a decisive penalty save to hand his victory over Amakhosi and progress to the semi- finals in the Telkom Knockout, this was after the two sides couldn't be separated after 120 minutes of play.

A lively opening 45 minutes saw Chiefs get the best chance of the half as Kingston Nkhatha dragged his effort inches wide of target on the half hour mark.

Brilliant Khuzwayo then had to tip the ball over the bar from a free kick as it remained 0-0 at the break.

Siyabonga Mpontshane was asked to make a number of saves to keep his side in the game, and he did that as he and Stars kept Chiefs at bay until extra time and beyond.

George Lebese was the only man to miss from the spot, as Chiefs lose for the first time in 17 matches in competitions.

Stars join Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Supersport United in the last four.
