CAPE TOWN - An investigation is still underway to determine the cause of a fire in Du Noon.

At least 10 shacks were gutted after a blaze tore through an informal settlement in the area yesterday.

Though no injuries were reported, 35 people were left homeless.

The city's Disaster Risk Management Wilfred Solomons-Johannes says, "Throughout the weekend the City of Cape Town will render the necessary support to the people that have been affected in the area. At this stage it's not yet clear how the fire started. The matter will be investigated."

With fire season fast approaching, Capetonians are urged to extra vigilant when handling open flames.

In recent weeks, several people have been displaced by a number of shack fires that broke out in the cit y.

Solomons-Johannes says people need to be more responsible when working with flammable material.
