JOHANNESBURG - The South African Police Union (Sapu) has slammed National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega for wearing various police medals during the recent National Police Remembrance Day.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Parliament on Thursday questioned why Phiyega wore the medals as she had not earned any of them.

This included the 10-year medal which is awarded to officers for a decade of service, the Fifa World Cup medal for police officers who served during that year and the amalgamation medal for officers who were part of the previous structure of the service.

Phiyega was not a police member during any of these events.

Sapu's Oscar Skommere says it's unacceptable.
