CAPE TOWN - Several police vehicles are on the scene of yet another armed robbery in Cape Town, this time at a jewellery store at Hout Bay Harbour.

According to witnesses, the gang of robbers included three men dressed as police officers.

There's been a wave of mall robberies over the past few weeks in the Western Cape as well as Gauteng.

The entrance to the Isis Jewelry Store in Hout Bay Harbour is cordoned off.

Police officers are taking statements from witnesses, including the jewellery store owner.

A car guard says he saw five men enter the store, three of whom were dressed in police uniforms.

He claims a shot went off shortly afterwards.

The car guard says the men then came running out of the store.

They gave him a R100 before speeding off in a white double cab bakkie.

At the same time, Gauteng police have formed an anti-crime collaborative which is working with retailers to address the recent spate of mall robberies in the province.

Consumer organisations and security companies have also been brought on board the project. Officials hope the outcome of solutions from this project will put shoppers at ease as the festive season approaches.
