Rape victim's grandmother breaks down in court

The five-year-old was raped and murdered in Diepsloot last year.

PRETORIA - The grandmother of a Diepsloot girl who was raped and murdered last year has broken down on the witness stand in the High Court in Pretoria, where the girl's alleged killer is on trial.

Ntokoza Radebe is accused of kidnapping, raping and murdering three children between September and October last year.

Two of his alleged victims were cousins and their bodies were found in a toilet cubicle two days after they went missing.

Bongiwe Mcubuse says when she and her husband attempted to report that their granddaughter, five-year-old Anelisa Mkondo, was missing, Diepsloot police told them to return the following day.

A while later they told police that Mkondo was last seen wearing a pink T-shirt and a pair of shorts.

Mcubuse says the police asked their neighbours a few questions, while the community searched the area for the little girl.

The grandmother says thereafter, refuse collectors came knocking at her door, asking what clothes the child was last seen wearing, it was then that they told her the child's body had been discovered in a dustbin not far from her home.

The indictment states that the five-year-old was raped, and died as a result of head and neck injuries as well as suffocation.
