Police make four arrests in Jackson Mthembu shooting
The ANC MP was shot in the cheek while withdrawing money from an ATM machine.
JOHANNESBURG - Authorities have taken four suspects in for questioning for the attempted murder and armed robbery of African National Congress (ANC) Member of Parliament (MP), Jackson Mthembu.
Mthembu was shot in Emalahleni while withdrawing money from an ATM machine on Sunday.
The arrests were made following information received from public.
The four suspects were found with 30 smartphones and 28 cloned credit cards and police are now investigating whether they can be linked to other crimes.
Mthembu was shot in the face during the ambush.
He is currently in a serious but stable condition in hospital.
Police spokesperson Solomon Makgale says the attack was a pure case of criminality.
"We need to conduct further investigation. We have taken fingerprints to see if they can be linked to any other crimes."
