'NHI will be implemented no matter what'
Aaron Motsoaledi says the NHI will be implemented despite resistance from the Western Cape government.
JOHANNESBURG - Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has reiterated that no matter how much resistance there is to National Health Insurance (NHI), it will become a reality.
Motsoaledi outlined the importance of NHI to ensure all South Africans have equitable health care.
He was speaking at a Hospital Association of South Africa (Hasa) conference in Johannesburg yesterday.
The Hasa conference allows for open discussion amongst all stakeholders regarding ever-evolving healthcare landscape and the challenges the health care industry faces.
Motsoaledi told attendees the much anticipated NHI white paper is almost ready.
"It's not going to bridge the divide and its even going to the United Nations to be debated. It's going to be a programme which everyone is going to embrace. It doesn't matter which party you belong to. It's going to be embraced by the whole world."
Motsoaledi says NHI will be implemented despite resistance from the Western Cape government.
"It doesn't matter how much the Western Cape doesn't believe in it they are going to embrace it. There is no question about it. I can assure you and I'll put my signature to it. There is no escape from it."
