CAPE TOWN - A draft report on the amendment of controversial new visa regulations has not been adopted.

The Western Cape's Standing Committee on Economic Development, Tourism and Agriculture held public hearings on the matter last month.

A draft report based on the submissions was expected to be adopted by the committee on Thursday.

The possible amendment to parts of the immigration regulations has caused great concern, especially in the tourism sector.

The amendment will make it difficult for foreigners to travel to the country unless their children are in possession of an unabridged birth certificate.

The same applies to South Africans leaving the country.

The application process can take several months.

Public hearings have since been held on the matter.

A decision to adopt a draft report following the public hearings was expected but will not take place until a formal meeting is held with Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba next month.
