CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Education Department says it's positive matriculants in the province will do well in their final exams which get underway in just over a week.

Nearly 50,000 matriculants in the province are gearing up to finish their schooling careers.

Western Cape Education MEC Debbie Schafer says, "I'm sure our matriculants will do us proud, they've all been working very hard. They have been involved in holiday programmes throughout the year to assist them in getting ready for their exams."

Meanwhile, the Gauteng Education Department said last week it's aiming for a 90 percent matric pass rate this year.

The 2012 matric class achieved an 84 percent pass rate, the highest in the country, and last year improved by three percent.
