Coach Mashaba though has made some brave choices to the team that will take on the Group A leaders.
CAPE TOWN - Bafana Bafana face a daunting task when they take on Congo in Pointe Noire later today.
Coach Shakes Mashaba though has made some brave choices to the team that will take on the Group A leaders.
Congo have been the surprise package of the group as they started their qualifying campaign with a shock win over Nigeria and followed that up with a home win over Sudan.
Bafana are currently second in the group after a win and draw.
In team news, 17-year-old Rivaldo Coetzee has been thrown in, in the deep end by coach Shakes Mashaba.
The Ajax Cape Town defender will make his debut and will become the youngest player to start for the national team.
Former captain Aaron Mokoena was previously the youngest player to take to the field when he made his 18.
Mashaba has gone for consistency in the captaincy department as goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa retains the armband.
Thulani Serero makes a return to the team after Mashaba left him out of the previous squad.
Coverage of the match gets underway at 4pm.
