Ajax, Pirates through to quarters

The final two teams for the quarterfinals of the Telkom Knockout were confirmed today.

JOHANNESBURG - The final two teams for the quarterfinals of the Telkom Knockout were confirmed today as Ajax Cape Town beat Mpumalanga Black Aces 3-0 and Orlando Pirates beat Polokwane City 2-1 to advance to the last 8 of the competition .

Ajax found themselves 2-0 up after 20 minutes courtesy of a brace from Thabiso Nkoana. Roger de Sa's young side would however have to wait until the 76th minute for the third goal as Abbubaker Mobara slotted home. The win by Ajax in the cup allowed them to exact some revenge on Aces, who were responsible for the Cape Town outfits first league defeat of the season.

Meanwhile Orlando Pirates got back to winning was as a Thabo Qalinqe goal in the second half; saw them seal a come from behind win against Polokwane City. The Buccaneers had fallen behind early in the game thanks to a Tokelo Langa strike in the fifteenth minute.

However that seemed to spark last season's runners up into life as they replied less than 3 minutes later, courtesy of Issa Sarr. The team however would have to wait until the second half as Qalinge hit a first-time shot into Dino Visser's goal after being set up by Lehlohonolo Majoro.

Those results mean the eight teams for the quarterfinals have now been confirmed. The draw for the games will be done tomorrow at 12pm at the Premier Soccer League offices in Parktown.
