JOHANNESBURG - The South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) has called a strike in Cape Town for later this month.

The union is up in arms over a number of issues.

Samwu regional secretary Mike Khumalo says among these issues are concerns over the safety of members who have to demolish illegally erected shacks.

"Workers fear for their lives, forcing them to stay at home."
