PRETORIA - The North Gauteng High Court on Wednesday ordered the City of Tshwane to rebuild nearly 100 shacks destroyed in Mamelodi East.

The municipality last month demolished the structures in extension 11 without following the law.

The Pretoria court ordered the council re-erect the dwellings within 15 days and cover all legal costs.

City of Tshwane spokesperson Lindela Mashigo says although they're disappointed with the ruling, the council will comply.

"We had good intentions. Our aim was to better the peoples' lives through our programme by giving them permanent stands.
