Speculation was rife on social media after pictures emerged of Naidoo with McIlroy's family at the Ryder Cup.

JOHANNESBURG - South African model and actress Shashi Naidoo has denied romantic involvement with the world's number one golfer, Rory McIlroy.

Speculation was rife on social media after pictures emerged of Naidoo with the golfer's family at the Ryder Cup.

McIlroy was previously engaged to Caroline Wozniacki, but the engagement was called off in May just days after their wedding invites were sent out

Naidoo has not been available for official comment but took to Twitter yesterday to set the record straight.

I am NOT dating Rory Mcllroy or any other golfer for that matter. I was in Scotland supporting Team Europe at the Ryder Cup #BadJournalism

Naidoo posted a photo to her Instagram account of her taking a ride in a golf cart with McIlroy's mom during the tournament. The picture has since been removed from her Instagram account.

In an Instagram video of McIlroy making a key putt, the 33-year-old model writes, "And that's how you do it! Rory McIlroy, 8th hole."

Naidoo recently narrowly escaped an attempted rape at her home in Johannesburg on 21 September when a robber broke in and made off with a number of her belongings including an iPad and two cellphones.

"I went to bed at 8:30pm and I woke up at 1am with a guy choking me and ripping off my underwear," a shaken Naidoo told You magazine.

She escaped from the bed and managed to get to the panic button.

Her father, Harry Naidoo, told the Sunday Tribune his daughter was seriously rattled by the incident. He said she went to Scotland to "clear her mind".

Naidoo who is also a well-known South African TV personality and owner of model agency Alushi, arrived back in South Africa on Monday.

She co-hosts magazine show 20Something and is the celebrity winner of reality show Tropika Island of Treasure.
