Rand Water making significant progress
Water tankers are still being delivered to affected areas in Gauteng.
JOHANNESBURG - Rand Water says it is making significant progress in refilling its major reservoirs that were rendered not operational by a series of system failures.
Water tankers are still being delivered to affected areas with frustrated Gauteng residents still unclear on when their water supply will be fully restored.
The Department of Water and Sanitation announced on Friday that it has laid out an intensive two-week plan that will hopefully see operations returning to normal soon.
Since the major power failure at the Palmiet Pump Station last week, areas of Johannesburg including the East Rand and Pretoria have been affected by serious water shortages.
Rand Water's Justice Mohale says, "At the two reservoirs in Meredale, the levels are standing at 40 percent and our two Waterval ones are standing at 40 percent which is a major improvement."
The utility says its current challenge is pumping enough water to supply Gauteng's high-lying regions.
