CAPE TOWN - Signage, warning beachgoers to stay out of the sea in Hout Bay, will remain in place until further notice.

Authorities have discouraged any form of recreational activity as the water contains high levels of e-coli due to pollution.

The City of Cape Town's Benedicta Van Minnen says any form of recreational activity is not allowed until further notice.

"The public is thus advised any form of full contact recreational activity, such as swimming may increase the risk of gesture intestinal problems. It is, therefore, emphasized any person who uses the sea along the Hout Bay beach does so at their own risk."
