JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) has called on Water and Sanitation Minister Nomvula Mokonyane to urgently investigate major interruptions in water supply in Gauteng.

Hundreds of frustrated residents in southern and northern Johannesburg spent most of the weekend without water, following a power outage at one of Rand Water's main pumps last week.

Some areas in the city of Ekurhuleni have been without water for several days now.

Earlier, Johannesburg Water said although supply has been restored to a number of affected suburbs, it's still experiencing problems in some areas.

Rand Water has also attributed the widespread shortages to high demands due to warmer weather conditions.
