Bulls stumble as WP go top
The Western Province is on top of the Currie Cup log after a win at Newlands.
JOHANNESBURG - Western Province finish the weekend on top of the Currie Cup standings after a 36-12 win over Griquas at Newlands on Saturday.
Province outscored the visitors by five tries to two, with Sikhumbhuzo Notshe bagging two tries in his first Currie Cup start.
Province led 24-0 after 25 minutes, but struggled to punish Griquas who also had a player yellow carded for foul play in the first half.
Meanwhile, the Sharks made it eight victories out of 10 visits to Loftus Versveld when they beat the Bulls 26-15.
Tries on either side of the half from Lwazi Mvovo and S'bura Sithole were well complimented by kicks from Lionel Cronje and SP Marais.
In another game, the Lions gave the Pumas a rugby lesson on Friday night with a bonus point victory over the Pumas at Ellis Park, winning 29-15 while the Cheetahs picked up a win on the road, beating the EP Kings 37-22 in Port Elizabeth.
Province are on 29 points, five clear of the Golden Lions in second. The Sharks are third with the Pumas fourth.
