DURBAN - Brilliant Khuzwayo put in a man-of-the-match performance as Kaizer Chiefs were crowned MTN8 champions on Saturday night.

Amakhosi beat Orlando Pirates 1-0 at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Khuzwayo was deputising for the injured Itumeleng Khune and he admits that following words of wisdom from the club captain, he needed to put in a performance worthy of challenging the number one.

"I was prepared to fight as an underdog to replace Itu, who is the best in South Africa, and I look up to him as my role model. I did my best as an individual. I wasn't comparing myself to him."

Pirates were into their fifth consecutive cup final, but have only won one trophy.

Coach Vladimir Vermezovic says the one thing that stood in the way of victory is their lack of concentration for Chiefs' goal.

"When a goal keeper is named man of the match that means something. In the first half, we made only one mistake but it was an expensive one."
