CAPE TOWN - Western Province beat Griquas 36-12 in today's early Currie Cup match.

Province scored 5 tries to 2.

The win propelled Province back to the top of the Currie Cup table, while Griquas remain in seventh.

Griquas coach Hawies Fourie says Province already wrapped the game up in the first half.

"Yeah we lost the game in the first 25 minutes. Too many penalties against us, two good driving balls by province and that took us totally out of the game. I think we fought back really well in the last 15 minutes, a bit unlucky not to score before half time, but those first 25 minutes was crucial."

Despite the win, Western Province coach Allister Coetzee wasn't all that impressed with his side's performance.

"Five points at home its mission accomplished. Obviously in terms of the performance, we're not really 100 percent happy about the performance. Especially about the last 50 minutes. I think we had a good start, a good 30 minutes and then it dropped off a bit. The basics of the game that let us down a bit there."
