Water crisis: Reservoirs taking time to fill up
It’s unclear when water will be restored to areas in JHB which have been without water since Monday.
JOHANNESBURG - Rand Water says it's difficult to say, at this stage, when water will be fully restored in parts of western Johannesburg.
Several areas have been without water since Monday, due to a power problem at the Eikenhof pump station.
Affected areas include Honeydew, Muldersdrift and Rietfontein.
Rand Water's Justice Mohale says reservoirs are taking time to fill up due to high demand but by Wednesday they had reached just over 40 percent capacity.
"There are some areas that still don't have water. We understand the frustration and anger out there but we are trying our best and pumping at maximum level."
Meanwhile, concerns have been raised about poor hygiene and sanitation at many schools that are without water.
Eyewitness News visited Hoërskool Die Burger, where the governing body is concerned that the school of 1,200 pupils has sanitation problems.
Ground staff say it's become increasingly hard to keep the toilets clean and teachers say the hot temperatures combined with a lack of water makes it hard to keep pupils well hydrated.
