CAPE TOWN - Democratic Alliance (DA) Parliamentary leader Mmusi Maimane says African National Congress (ANC) Members of Parliament (MPs) are among those who have lost faith in National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete.

Five opposition parties, including the DA, the Congress of the People, the Economic Freedom Fighters, the United Democratic Movement and the Freedom Front Plus have joined forces to submit a motion of no-confidence in Mbete.

The motion is scheduled for debate in Parliament tomorrow.

The parties have argued Mbete is biased, too loyal to the ANC and say her personal integrity has been compromised.

Maimane says he believes a secret ballot would prove she is the wrong person for the job.

"Let's put up a secret ballot so if members of the ANC, who are also dissatisfied that this house is not operating in the correct manner, can vote. We are certainly going to request that this vote takes place as a secret ballot and that means that members may vote in any way they choose to vote."
