Taxpayer's money wasted on 'Ghost Hospital'
Concerns have been raised about the money spent at the abandoned Kempton Park Hospital.
JOHANNESBURG - Concerns have been raised about the amount of money spent on security and municipal charges at the abandoned Kempton Park Hospital.
The Department of Infrastructure Development has not yet assessed the building or determined its value while the Department of Health says an extra facility to accommodate patients will be useful.
It's understood R5.6 million has been spent on security at the hospital over the past four years.
The Democratic Alliance (DA)'s Jack Bloom says it's a waste of taxpayers' money.
"Every year we spend about R1.7 million on municipal rates and also for the security company that guards the hospital and it's going to waste because it's now turned out that the department doesn't really have a plan for this hospital because they haven't finished the technical assessment of the state of the building."
