CAPE TOWN - The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says it's prepared and revving for the up-coming by-elections in Plettenberg Bay in the Western Cape.

By-elections are expected to be held in the Bitou Municipality on Wednesday.

The fiercely contested municipality is currently controlled by a Democratic Alliance (DA) and Congress of the People (Cope) coalition.

The IEC's Courtney Sampson says, "In terms of our planning we are up to date, our staff have been trained, the ballot papers have been printed so we're waiting for Wednesday to come."

DA leader Helen Zille was campaigning in the area today.

"If every single DA supporter comes out to vote we've got a good chance."

The IEC earlier this month confirmed it's head, Advocate Pansy Tlakula, has resigned from her position.
