CT electricity price hikes raise concerns
The Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry says it sympathises with small business owners.
CAPE TOWN - The Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry has raised concerns about the number of complaints it's received from small businesses about a massive increase in electricity tariffs.
The chamber says the City of Cape Town appears to be extending the use of daily service charges to more customers and this is resulting in increases of up to 223 percent.
The chamber's Janine Myburgh says, "Whichever way you look at it, a sudden increase of 223 percent is unreasonable and unacceptable. If there's a legitimate reason for the change, it should be phased in after a process of consultation. As it now stands, one can sympathise with people who feel that it is a sneaky way of getting more money out of small business."
